Community Outreach

Art brings Toledo together

Our current Community Outreach Program is focused on providing access to unique art making experiences for youth and intergenerational audiences with emphasis on the 2-mile radius around the museum, with an additional focus on the East Side. Our partnerships include the Lucas County Metro Housing Authority, public libraries, local community centers, churches, Toledo Public Schools, Community Events around the city and now Senior Centers. Most of this programming is held off site.

Art for All: A Journey Through the Toledo Museum of Art’s Community Outreach

This documentary created in 2025 emphasizes the Toledo Museum of Art’s commitment to making art accessible to all. Featuring interviews with museum partners at the Grace Community Center, Kent Library, and Senior Centers, Inc., it showcases key milestones in the Toledo Museum of Art’s outreach, including the inaugural docent program in 1947, the Committee for Cultural Diversity launched in the 1980s, and the creation of a full-time Community Liaison role in 1993.

As we look ahead to the future, we celebrate the relationships we continue to build beyond our walls because community is at the core of everything we do.

Baby Dragon

Ellie, the Baby Dragon is a mobile glassblowing furnace that allows the Toledo Museum of Art to share it's history in glass art with an audience outside of TMA’s campus. She was donated to TMA by Majida Mourad who named the Baby Dragon Ellie, after her mother, Elham “Ellie” Mourad. The Outreach efforts typically operate within a 2-mile radius of the museum. Ellie has visited local schools, libraries, parks, community centers, public celebrations, senior centers and more.
