James Secor III

In 2015, after 42 years, James (Jay) Secor III retired from his profession as teacher, dean, head of school and founder of two independent schools. Throughout his career, Jay served in both public and independent education. His last post was founding head of the Episcopal School of Knoxville in Tennessee.

At TMA, Jay is a member of the Georgia Welles Apollo Society and is the co chair of the current capital fundraising campaign. Additionally, Jay serves as president of the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg, a board member at Toledo’s Woodlawn Cemetery and a board member and chair of the Master Planning Committee at Chatham Hall, an all girls boarding school in Virginia. 

A graduate of  Maumee Valley Country Day School and Virginia Wesleyan College, Jay also holds a Master’s Degree in Education from James Madison University. The Secor family roots in Toledo date back to the 1840’s. His family was involved in numerous business pursuits and social service agencies. Relative Arthur J. Secor was a charter member of the museum and followed Edward D. Libby as the museum’s second president from 1924-34..

Jay and his wife, Trina Robinson Secor have three children and eight grandchildren.
