For over forty years, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur has partnered with the Arts Commission to support the arts in Ohio. Each year since 1983, high school art educators in Ohio’s Ninth Congressional District have been invited to submit work to this competitive exhibition. Hundreds of students’ work has been seen and celebrated by the community. Young artists have won thousands of dollars in awards because of the generous support of this show.

The competition is part of Artistic Discovery, a nationwide activity initiated by members of the United States House of Representatives to recognize and encourage young people’s artistic creativity. Works exhibited include painting, drawing, collage, print (lithograph, silk screen, monotype, woodcut, and intaglio methods), mixed media, photography, and computer-generated art. The first-place entry in the competition is exhibited in Washington, DC for one year. The two runners-up display their artwork in Congresswoman Kaptur’s offices.
