Jennifer McCary

Dr. Jennifer McCary is the Chief Culture and Brand Experience Officer at the Toledo Museum of Art. In her work, McCary is helping to expand and operationalize the strategic plan and promote a culture of communication, collaboration, connection, and accountability. In her previous role, McCary was the Chief Diversity and Belonging Officer at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), where she was a direct report to the president, and oversaw the Division of Diversity and Belonging while supporting the University’s strategic plan.  

 

McCary earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art education/stone sculpture, a Master of Arts degree in college student personnel, a graduate certificate in instructional design, and a Doctorate in organization development and change, all from BGSU. McCary serves on the Board of Trustees for Mercy College of Ohio and sits on other advisory committees. Key highlights about McCary include that she is a three-time TEDx speaker, an exhibiting artist, was named a Woman of Distinction at BGSU in 2019, won a 20 Under 40 award from the City of Toledo in 2019, was named a Top Diversity Officer in 2021 by the National Diversity Council, and was named a Top 100 Diversity Officer at the National Diversity & Leadership Conference in 2024. 

 

Known as a national Title IX expert, McCary is trained in Title IX and civil rights investigations, trauma-informed investigations, forensic evidence collection, restorative justice, and bystander intervention. McCary is a certified diversity professional, certified affirmative action professional, and certified in Results Based Accountability. She trains on the topics of bystander intervention, unconscious bias, strategic planning and execution; and McCary consults on DEIB, culture transformation, and Title IX. McCary has made it her professional goal to help improve climates and cultures in as many spaces as possible.
