Quayola employs technology as a lens to explore the tensions and equilibriums between seemingly opposing forces: real and artificial, figurative and abstract, old and new. Constructing immersive installations, he engages with and reimagines canonical imagery through contemporary technology. Landscape painting, classical sculpture, and iconography are some of the historical aesthetics that serve as points of departure for Quayola’s hybrid compositions. His work has been performed and exhibited in many institutions worldwide, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Park Avenue Armory, the UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, HOW Art Museum, the Seoul Museum of Art, the Palais de Tokyo, the Ars Electronica Center; the Sónar Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the National Art Center, Tokyo. In 2013 he was awarded the Golden Nica at Ars Electronica.
