If you’ve visited the museum recently, you’ve probably noticed a lot of activity as we work to upgrade our facilities. The marble façade is being pressure-washed for the first time in a decade, and the transformation is remarkable.
We are also installing accessible sliding doors at the Glass Pavilion that also feature interior vestibules (a component that was originally envisioned by SANAA when the building opened in 2006). Both sets of doors are scheduled to open later in September.
Another major milestone began on August 11 as part of the reinstallation project: construction of a new temporary exhibition space and accompanying amenities. This work will include creating a 13-by-13-foot opening in the West façade (nearest Glenwood Lutheran Church) to allow steel and other materials to be loaded directly into the building. This approach will minimize disruptions for visitors and staff compared to moving materials through the gallery spaces, allowing us to keep more areas of the museum open to our visitors.
We can’t wait for you to experience these enhancements when they are complete. Each project is designed to make your visit more welcoming, more accessible, and more inspiring. For more information on our reinstallation, please click the button below.
